As of June 21, 2024, the date of approval by the Board of Governors of the African Solidarity Fund of the accession of Morocco and Sierra Leone, the FSA now has twenty-three (23) member states.
The African Solidarity Fund gradually covers the main African regional economic communities. Currently, its shareholding includes seven (7) of the eight (8) regional economic communities of the continent :
This illustrates the pan-African character of the African Solidarity Fund and reinforces its catalytic role within these regional integration zones in Africa. Membership of the FSA is open to African states, non-African states as well as multilateral public financial institutions. This is evidenced by the current process of expanding the shareholder base of the Fund, which has seen nine (9) new regional member states join the Fund between 2021 and 2024 (Cape Verde, Congo, Comoros, Liberia, Gambia, Guinea, Morocco, Mauritania and Sierra Leone). In addition, several other States have submitted their official application or expressed interest in joining the Fund. Note that the FSA also includes the Development Bank of Central African States (BDEAC) as category B shareholders.
